I lost the software CD from the Canon EOS 500D package. So may I know anyone out there know what’s the version of the software inside?
It doesn’t really matter. Through Canon website, you can download the latest versions of their software for free. (link is country dependent, here’s one for asia: http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/P/search?category=Digital+Cameras&series=EOS&model=EOS+500D&menu=Download&filter=0) Trick is, you need an original CD in order to install them, unless you already have an older version installed on your computer. You don’t need the exact same version as that came with your camera.
As a matter of fact, you even don’t need the original CD or software installed, because one could cheat the installation software to believe that an older version is already installed on your PC. It’s probably not legal to give out this information, nevertheless you can find it with a Google search – [hint: with "<software-name> registry key"] — If you are sure that you legally own a camera and are entitled to use the software.) Otherwise you may be violating law.

Digital compacts are such a craze today that just about each household has one. The popularity of digital cameras has in reality overshadowed to near extinction the employment of cameras with films. But what is it about digital cameras that make even the professional users go gaga over it? Digital cameras may not be as cheap than the standard camera but it is cost useful in the long term. Unlike standard cameras, digital cameras operate without dear films. The photographs can be stored in the user's computer, or he'll reserve it in a disc or have it broadcast in photograph paper. It is alleged to be a good investment not only as it does capture memories, but also it permits the user to save on film costs.

My grandpa is a photographer and will give me one of his lenses. I need to find a canon eos rebel xs (keep it gray market) body that comes with the neck strap and software with the instruction manuals. So I need the entire kit just without the lens. I want it new in and in the 400s. Someone help?
Canon only sells that camera in a kit so if you want it without a lens you’ll most likely be finding it used. This is the best I’ve found. Can’t help you with the gray market though. I tend to stay away from those place since I want to know for certain that my gear will work.

I’d suggest looking for an xti that has not yet been sold. You may be able to get a crazy deal.

I want to buy the Canon EOS 30D but I have noo idea what lens to get with it.
I’ve read some things about the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens, but does anyone know if this lens is good or not?
Or should I just get a lens kit that comes with the Canon EOS 30D camera?
Depends on your budget- I have both lenses and the kit lens is ok and certainly handy for wide angle shoots. The second lens is quite a bit more expensive but would be useful from wide to a nice portrait focal length. Its major advantage is that it has image stabilization and is good for lower light situations without flash. I was able to hand hold it maybe 3 stops slower without obvious signs of camera shake induced blur. It retails for about $500 or less. There is a new, faster lens in the same or approximately same zoom range that has a 2.8 constant aperture, but here we are talking approx. $1000.
